What Else I Do
My kids are grown up now and moved away. I'm working on building a family web site highlighting our memories and their achievements.
Back in 1992 I made an excellent decision: to stop drinking. That move led me to active involvement with LifeRing, a nonprofit network of support groups based on a positive and secular philosophy. I've done some writing and speaking on the topic of recovery from addiction, and built the LifeRing network's website.
When time allows, I share my website skills with others. I've built websites for money, for paintings, or for love. I've put in time as publicist and organizer on a political campaign. I also play at photograpy. You can find out more at manicimaging.com.
Working with my hands around the house is great satisfaction. I've enjoyed small construction and landscaping projects. Since the recent drought, I've built a rainwater collection system and we've hosted a greywater workshop with the Greywater Guerrillas. I've also done some pro bono legal work for these great folks. Check them out here.
Back in the late 70s I was a fanatical bicyclist, a member of the Grizzly Peak Pedal Pushers, a group of two-wheeled lunatics who thought nothing of starting at 8 pm from Berkeley to pedal to the top of Mt. Diablo under the full moon, and return home at 3 a.m. I'm too sedentary for that kind of madness now, but you can still see me pedaling on the streets of Berkeley and Oakland, working up a healthy sweat and doing my tiny bit to spare the planet.
